RETURN TO THE GOOD OLD DAYS

Yes, I am talking about the 50's and 60's.  Oh, I know some of you have no idea what I'm talking about. BUT, some of you do!

Cruising to the drive-in restaurant, top down, radio loud... (hmmm...that could almost be today). Wearing black leather= 'Drapes', or poodle skirts=  'Squares' (personally, I tried both), congregating and eating in the car. It was a time to hang-out, and show off who was with whom!

Then came the best part...pick up a couple more kids and head to the drive-in movie. Stop at the road before the entrance and hide two in the trunk. Enter, pay for those visible, find a parking place in a cool spot, (which meant toward the back and near the concession stand for the rest rooms, far from any adults) then open the trunk. The driver and his date got the hood seats. Everyone else had to sit in the car and try to see around them or go around to the other cars trying to find someone they could hang with. Final option was the swings in front near the screen. Ugh!

The important thing is that hardly anyone was watching the movie; they were making out, or sneaking beer out of the trunk and trying to find someone to make out with!!  Rarely was the movie good enough to get the attention, unless it was a horror flick!

This was the weekend ritual and everyone from our area continued it.

What brought this to mind was, strangely enough, my car insurance company mentioning it on-line and offering the links to some drive-ins that are still operating. I checked them out. There is one 25 miles from my home. They are showing new movies and now charge $5.00 per person.

OK! You guessed right - I talked my husband into going some time when we are heading that way. And maybe we won't watch the movie!!
