When did it become a challenge to make eye contact? Oh, yes - from the beginning of time an animal would stare down his opponent or fight for domination.
Now, we can't look at the person in the next car and smile - they might accept the "challenge" as a race, or worse. Keep your eyes straight ahead while walking down the street, and if you pass someone looking at you, look down to show your submission. After all, you never know who is carrying a concealed weapon. I thought we were trying to progress not revert.
If you happen to look at me, I will smile at you. I may smile even if you are not looking. When I look into the car next to me, I think about what is going on in their life. Sometimes I create a scenerio - 'they have to pick up the child from soccer practice, then they are going to Mc Donalds' drive through for a kids meal'. I do the same in the grocery line, create a scenerio of - 'their dinner from what they are purchasing'. Just because I am looking does not mean I want to fight or force you into submission. It simply means I am interested in you and your life. It helps me look at my life.
