EXPRESS YOURSELF!!

What is profanity? Webster's definition: 1) blasphemous; 2) secular

How about cursing? 1) to invoke evil upon; damn 2) to afflict

Are the words the problem? darn, fudge, poop, ... or their counterparts? #*)< Apparently Webster didn't think so.

To 'speak irreverently to someone or wish them harm' starts inside before it comes out the mouth!
Yes, I understand that it is a habit for some. Perhaps they have never considered the meaning of the words. If they had, would they still use them? Maybe not - they may exchange them for the 'cleaned up' version; but would that change the intent of the words? Was the intention to shock, belittle, hurt or shame? There is no way to 'clean' that up.

Then, are prejudiced remarks (whether racial, religious, etc.) considered profane or cursing? Do they come from the same intention? Remember the line "engage brain before opening mouth"? That would be a good place to start - then we may not hurt each other so often.
