ASSORTED WORDS

Which ones should I choose to begin this post?

Recently we have been bombarded with political words. Some of us have been overwhelmed with hurtful or negative words. Some of us have been speaking these words and they have come home to roost, whether it was in the New York Times or from the lips of an angry friend. Yes, they are like a boomerang.

Remember when our parents said "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all". Turns out that was good advice.

What about the words we choose to listen to? If we stand still and absorb them have we done any damage? Probably. If it was gossip, we will make a judgement based on those words. Even if we never repeat them, they have done harm? If they were profanity, prejudice, or violence they have created a place in our mind and can continue to hurt us also.

If we come upon gossip, let's walk away and not partake either by speaking or listening.

Let's speak positive words of kindness and encouragement - or "don't say anything at all".

Language is a precious gift. Let's be very careful with it.
