LAUNDRY ROOM AWAKENING

Yesterday there was a leak upstairs that attempted to 'drown' our bathroom. We had towels on the floor for almost 24 hours (which needed rung out often). The leak was fixed, the water stopped, and the towels had to be laundered. I went to the laundry room in our apartment complex. Soon I was joined by an elderly lady who was not wearing her hearing aids but wanted to talk. She brought her chair closer to me and struck up a conversation. She told me how she loved it here, she felt so safe. I learned that her husband was deceased so she felt very insecure until she moved here. She has children and grandchildren that she sees regularly, however she feels at home here because everyone is so friendly and nice. ........ I listened intently and spoke infrequently.
As she talked, I had an AAHAA moment....... It made her happy ... and I think it made me happy too.

There are so many folks living longer, having more physical problems, losing loved ones, being lonely and vulnerable. Fear and depression are terrible states in which to live.

This is what was unspoken:
"Can you look into my eyes, see my pain, and be kind? Can you share some encouragement and hope with me? Can you sincerely care about me - even if only for this moment?
CAN YOU? PLEASE....

So true! A lot of times we forget to stop and really consider others and what they may be going through. We need to be more willing to help and listen to one another. Thanks! ;)
